WHY SHOULD STUDENTS GET CERTIFIED?
Taking this course will prepare you for the complex reality of the diverse workplace, plus give you the competitive edge as you apply for professional jobs. All major companies have some type of diversity program and require their employees to be trained in diversity. Each year companies send thousands of employees and spend millions of dollars in certification programs training managers, supervisors and employees in HR, EEO and Diversity. You will be more valuable to potential employers having already been trained than those who have not.
Our survey on what companies are looking for in today’s market from students entering the workfroce:
1. Return on Investment (ROI):
Diversity initiatives can improve the quality of an organization’s workforce and can be the catalyst for better return on investment (ROI) regarding human capital. An organization's largest budget item is the amount it spends on human resources in the form of salaries, benefits, training, development and recruitment. In order to get a healthy ROI in human capital and maximize competitive advantage, it is important to recognize that the workforce will grow in the number of women, people of color and employees of cross-cultural differences every year; Hence the need for an ever growing workforce trained in diversity.
2. New Customers:
Customer bases are becoming even more diverse than the workforce. Employing resources (personnel) that mirror the customers we serve, benefits an organization. Diverse employees can understand diverse customers, identify their needs and suggest potential new markets and new services.
3. Attract and Retain New Talent:
Recognized diversity initiatives and results will attract the best and the brightest employees to an organization. As the value of diversity continues to grow in the business community and elsewhere, recruiting and retaining talented potential employees who are diverse is even more important to organizational success.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION:
As we seek to prepare students for life in the twenty-first century, the educational value of such encounters will become more important than in the past. Diversity workshops held on various campuses gives us a truly unique and more complex way of seeing diversity.
Studies indicate three know facts. One, students benefit significantly from education that takes place within a diverse setting. Two, students learn more and think in deeper, more complex ways in a diverse educational setting and three, students encounter and learn from others who have backgrounds and characteristics very different from their own.
